Internship Experience

Communications Director -

First Baptist Church of Vienna

 

During the summer of 2014, Ashleigh interned with First Baptist Church of Vienna, Virginia, and served as communications director. To date, she still works with First Baptist.

​

As Communications Director for First Baptist, she developed a social media platform that utilizes the social network site Facebook to better market First Baptist Church of Vienna's mission and vision of community outreach and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

​

First Baptist currently maintains a website that services its members and viewers by providing information regarding available ministries to join, a calendar of events, the Epistle Newsletter, the 2014 Lenten Devotional Guide, and a job opportunity portal. Online communication is a vital portion of an organization especially in a church where there is a great need to increase congregation attendance and membership.

 

This position entails the following responsibilities:

 

  • Attending weekly church staff meetings

  • Managing social network sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)

  • Creating concise, accurate and informative content for viewers (photos, articles, videos)

  • Advertising upcoming church/social events

  • Assisting in editing/generating content for The Epistle Newsletter

  • Compiling weekly announcements into Multimedia pieces to be broadcasted during Sunday services

  • Creating audio podcasts of Sunday sermons

First Baptist's Official "Happy" Music Video

VOA Media Lab Intern -

Voice of America

 

During the summer of 2015, Ashleigh interned with the Voice of America, located in Washington, D.C., where she served as a VOA media lab intern.

 

While at Voice of America, she worked with a digital media team that provided news programming for an array of clients, and she also contributed multimedia content to this global media outlet. Voice of America is a dynamic multimedia broadcaster—funded by the U.S. Government—that produces accurate and comprehensive news and information to an international audience, and its subbrand, VOA 60, delivers one minute overviews of the daily top news stories that are comprised of compelling video clips with simple captions.

 

This position entailed the following responsibilities:

 

  • Writing and editing daily 1-minute news packages on top stories from the U.S., Africa, and the world using Final Cut Pro

  • Writing timely news headlines and used Dalet to compile footage from Reuters, AFPTV, and ABC NewsOne news sources

  • Posting daily news programming to social media sites (Facebook, Twitter)

Digital Media Intern -

The Westchester Magazine

 

During the winter of 2014, Ashleigh interned with the Westchester Magazine, located in Rye, New York, where she served as a digital media intern.

 

While at the Westchester Magazine, she observed the production of an upscale-lifestyle publication and also contributed content to this publication. The Westchester Magazine caters to Westchester County's culture and surrounding areas, and "as the source for all things Westchester," this publication takes pride in its notoriety of hosting events and being read by the nation's most affluent and sophisticated individuals.  

 

This position entailed the following responsibilities:

 

  • Aiding with any web projects and site improvements, as determined by digital editor

  • Assisting in editing and monitoring Westchester Magazine's online calendar of events

  • Data entry

  • Researching and writing web-exclusive stories

  • Assisting the multimedia producer with video shoots

  • Attending events as a reporter or videographer

Social Media Marketing Intern -

BrightGirl Media

 

During the summer of 2014, Ashleigh interned with BrightGirl Media, located in Dallas, Texas, where she served as a social media marketing intern.

​

While at BrightGirl Media, she gained a "behind the scenes" look at female entrepeneurship and the creative, visual, print, and multimedia components that are produced by digital marketing firms. Additionally, Ashleigh contributed content for this business' clients.

 

BrightGirl Media specializes in high-quality productions, strong media presence, and ensuring the greatest return on the marketing investment dollars of its clients. Founder and owner Chanelle R. Yarber is credited with working with several notable corporations and personalities within the non-profit, consumer goods, telecommunications, publishing, and entertainment industries.

 

This position entailed the following responsibilities:

 

  • Writing articles, press releases, reviews on products for clients to be posted on social media sites/blogs/websites

  • Attending weekly conference calls via phone/computer to communicate with interns and Managing Consultant

  • Creating video product reviews to be used for client promotion

  • Generating additional content to be used on clients' social media sites, blogs, and websites

Summer Intern -

LGK Marketing Communications Collective, Inc.

 

During the summer of 2014, Ashleigh interned with LGK Marketing Communications Collective, Inc., located in Washington, D.C., where she served as a summer intern.

​

While at LGK, she gained experience in working for a marketing and communication company—primarily in its radio broadcast sector—producing edited audio samples, press releases, and communicating with guest clients for the show. She was expected to fulfill its mission of meeting deadlines, achieving objectives, delivering results and exceeding expectations.

 

LGK serves to provide strategic direcation and tactical execution to companies of all sizes through the United States. This minority and women-owned contractor, seeks to provide "more bang" for your marketing dollars and upholds an uncompromised commitment to excellence. This position entailed the following responsibilities:

 

  • Completing audio edits for a monthly podcast segment using Audacity recording and editing software

  • Assisting in prepping guest clients for appearance on "The Marketing Mojo Show"

  • Writing press releases for upcoming events or guest appearance on "The Marketing Mojo Show"

  • Published article, "What The Classroom Doesn't Teach You: Reflections from a NC A&T Student Intern," on the LGK Marketing Matters Blog
